YOU NEED SONLIGHT
Scientists have discovered that some people are affected adversely when deprived of light. This is called “seasonal affective disorder”, better known as SAD. When susceptible people are deprived of light, their bodies secrete excess melatonin. This is a hormone that is tied to depression. As the daylight hours begin to dwindle, people become more affected. Special lights have been developed that produce enough LUX that will overcome the unusual phenomenon that some call the “cold weather blues”. The “blues” are characterized as depression, a craving for carbohydrates, fatigue, and a general “blah” feeling. This identical phenomenon is seen in religious behavior as well! I have found when a person is deprived of regular time with God, they experience SAD, spiritual affective disorder. The spirit begins to produce a substance (attitude) that is characterized by depression, apathy, listlessness, and a general feeling of lukewarmness.
