WHAT MAKES US GREEDY?
The list of those corrupted by power and money is lengthy, and no field of endeavor is exempt. Free-world politicians and heads of communist states. Investment bankers and TV preachers. Those respected for their business skills and those honored for their human compassion. How wide sometimes is the line between what one preaches and what one practices. There may be worse crimes than stashing away huge sums of money while talking about patriotism, justice, equality, liberty, self-sacrifice or religious faith, but that doesn’t absolve those who do it from the criminality or the hypocrisy. What gets into them? A top Soviet sociologist observed that Marxist countries tried for generations to build the ideal “Socialist man.” They used all sorts of techniques including self-criticism, group therapy, education and propaganda.
