Titles are so important that many of them get changed over the years. One particular product started out as Mr. Pemberton’s Triplex Liver Pills. But that didn’t wash, so he made it a cough syrup and called it Dr. Pemberton’s Glove of Flower Cough Syrup. Actually, he wasn’t a doctor at all, but a druggist. Then he worked on a hangover cure for a while in his basement. He put together the extracts of fruits and leaves and nuts, a touch of caffeine, some analgesic. Some thought it might have even had a touch of cocaine in those early days. All you had to do was add some water to dilute it-and it would help ease the pain of a hangover. Then one day one of his fellow druggists told Dr. Pemberton he sold his syrup and accidently added some carbonated water to it instead of regular water and it tasted even better.
