EVERYBODY WANTS TO MAKE A BUCK DEPARTMENT
I read the following story in Ronald Reagan’s early autobiography (written before he became Guv, let alone President), entitled Where Is The Rest of Me? (p. 215). I was playing a small town lawyer in a picture called Storm Warning that teed off on the Ku Klux Klan. The girls were Doris Day and Ginger Rogers. Some of our first scenes were shot at night in a small California town that is rumored to be the center of Klan activity here on the coast. The studio was understandably nervous and halfway expected some kind of incident. About three o’clock one morning, shooting a street scene, I thought maybe the studio was justified in its concern.
