Just south of Lake Erie there is a wonder of nature called the “Blue Hole.” The Blue Hole is a circular opening in the earth, about one hundred feet in diameter. From out of this immensely deep hole “flows a steady stream of perfectly clear water, reflecting the ever-changing blue of the northern Ohio sky … Rising from its mysterious cavern of limestone deep within the earth, it emerges smoothly and quietly but with tremendous force. Having emerged into the open, it becomes a sparkling, swiftly-moving brook, winding this way and that through a sylvan garden of trees and flowers. Within this brook, trout and catfish swim and swerve as has been their custom through the ages … families of ducks float in friendly competition with clouds in the sky. Bees and birds enjoy their smorgasbord among the flowers. Colorful singing birds play hide-and-seek among the trees. Lovely little children scamper from footbridge to brookside to waterfall.
