BATTLEFIELD PRAYER
One of the fiercest battles of the Civil War was fought at Kennesaw Mountain near Marietta. The night after the battle a young twenty-year-old Union Army captain lay wounded. The stretcher bearers came along and looked at him and said that he was gone. He had an open wound in his chest that appeared fatal. They left him in the darkness. But back home in Massachusetts his folks were praying for him. He had been a wild young man who had lost his faith in college and had fancied himself an athiest. But they prayed for him faithfully. As the wounded captain lay all night on the battlefield he began to think about his parents and their faith in God. He began to pray and asked God that if he allowed him to survive he would dedicate himself to God’s service.
