DETERMINED TO BE MISERABLE I
‘ve noticed that no matter how up-beat you preach, no matter how much gospel good news you lay on some people, some are absolutely determined to see the dour side of life. They are thoroughly committed negative thinkers, the kind who would challenge the most cheerful good news herald. They remind me of the story I read about the waitress who couldn’t get a smile out of her customer for love nor money. The old woman was dour, depressed and dejected all through dinner. And the food really wasn’t all that bad. As the lady paid her bill and was leaving, the waitress said, “Have a nice day!” And the woman responded snappishly, “I’m sorry, but I’ve made other plans!”
