HEAL THE BLIND
The following story is by Dr. Paul Brand, world-renowned surgeon who has pioneered medical work with lepers in India. I have found his book Fearfully and Wonderfully Made (with Philip Yancey) to be loaded with marvelous stories that illustrate the spiritual analogy Paul uses about the human body as a picture of Christ’s body, the Church. In the book he also tells of some of the adventures in healing experienced by his wife including this one I used when preaching on John 9: In India, while leprosy research consumed my time, my wife Margaret trained as an ophthalmologist and became an expert eye surgeon. Because many of the neediest people could not travel to the hospital, she and a team of helpers took a well-stocked mobil unit on monthly circuits into rural areas.
