About ten years ago, a great new archaeological discovery was made, one of the most important in the annals of biblical archaeology. A new Dead Sea Scroll was found. This scroll contained the text of the Great Plowshares Treaty between the Philistines and the Kingdom of Israel, dated by scholars to the beginning of the first millennium B. C. E. The world famous archaeologist was Art Buchwald. Now you may think of “Professor” Buchwald as an ordinary, everyday newspaper columnist, but for one day he turned archaeologist to describe his discovery of the Great Plowshares Treaty. Now this treaty limited the number of swords and spears the Philistines and Israelites could have. However, it seems their ancient version of Arms Limitation talks did not work out very well.
