A second-grader came home from school and announced to her mother that she would never have to go to school again. To prove her point she gave her mother her copy of the written notice she and her classmates had received from their teacher. The notice consisted of just seven words: “School will be closed for Good Friday.” But somehow a misplaced “comma” appeared between the word “Good” and the word “Friday.” Thus the little girl’s interpretation:
School will be closed for Good, Friday.
The Apostle John’s account of what occurred on the first Good Friday brings to mind the story of Tim and Tom, whose rival business offices were located in the same high-rise. Tim’s business was doing very well. Tom’s was floundering. As a result, Tom had developed a hostile attitude to Tim. Both men usually came to work at the same time.
