A retired couple were sitting in their “rec” room one evening. The wife was watching the nightly news on TV; the husband was reading a book on physiology. When the news broadcast ended, the wife turned to her husband and said, “Let’s stay up and watch the Late Show.” The husband put down the physiology book and said, “I’m much too tired. Do you realize that today my heart beat over one hundred and three thousand times? And my blood traveled about one hundred sixty-eight thousand miles. I moved seven hundred fifty major muscles. I breathed twenty three thousand times and inhaled twenty eight hundred cubic feet of air. Plus I exercised seven million brain cells. I’m exhausted! I’m going to bed!
