Many years ago, an American traveler secured a few grains of wheat from an Egyptian tomb. Those grains of wheat had been slumbering in that tomb for more than thirty centuries. As he looked at them, the traveler thought to himself that if three thousand years ago just one of those grains had been planted on the banks of the Nile and all it’s lineal descendants had been planted and replanted from that time until now, its progeny today would be sufficiently numerous to feed the teeming billions of the world.

Think of it! An unbroken chain of life connects the earliest grains of wheat to the grains we sow and reap. There is, in the grain of wheat, an invisible something which has power to discard the body that we see and, from earth and air, fashion a new body, so much like the old one that we cannot tell one from the other, concerning which the traveler wrote later. “If this invisible germ…
