Oh my friend, do not have children! You bring them into the world and they send you out of it. You give them life, and they give you your death blow.

This foreboding advice was penned by the 19th century French novelist, Balzac, in one of his most popular works. And this anti-child mindset is in such stark contrast to the Biblical attitude about children that it is nearly impossible to adequately describe. Nevertheless, we must be willing to try because it is critical for us to affirm, in every way possible the greatest of God’s gifts — His gift of the family, and especially His gift of children.

If you will think back for a moment on your reading and study of the Bible, you will remember how, all the way through, the coming of children is the greatest blessing that God can give. The children are the crown of His precious gifts to us, the highest of all blessings — like…
