Greatest Comeback Of All!

In what may be described as the greatest “comeback” story of all time, we have the account of Ralph Neves. A Hall of Fame horse racing jockey, Neves made headlines in 1936 when he walked out of a hospital after being declared dead in a track accident. While some versions of this story vary a bit, this much we know for sure: On May 8, 1936, Neves was thrown from his horse during a race at the Bay Meadows Racetrack in San Mateo, California. And then the worst happened: the horse fell on him. Two jockeys and a spectator pulled him out from under the horse, but doctors on the scene failed to find a heartbeat or pulse, and pronounced him dead at the track. It is at this point that the story gets a bit sketchy. One source claims that a shot of adrenaline was administered by hospital doctors in a last ditch attempt to revive him.
