In the classic tale, “Alice In Wonderland,” The White Rabbit puts on his spectacles and asks the king, “Where shall I begin, please your Majesty?” “Begin at the beginning,” the King demands, “and go on ’till you come to the end.”

In today’s Gospel Lesson, King Herod demands information about the child Jesus. And now, two thousand years later, people all around us are still asking. And it is our Christian duty to meet that demand. Whether or not we succeed depends largely on knowing where to begin. For Christians, we begin at the beginning with our understanding that the great Lord God, from the very onset of time, among all peoples and in all places, has been acting in a Christly way.
