Sermon Week/Year

Fifth Sunday of Lent, C

There is a fable about a cattle rancher who discovers a young cowhand stealing one of his cows …

When the thief was dragged before the rancher, he looked down at the frightened young man and said, “Hang him. That will teach him a lesson.”

The day came when the old rancher dies and appears before the judgment seat of God. As he stands there, he remembers all the mean, horrible things he had done on earth. He is reminded of the hanging of that young cowboy and responds with great fear and trembling. Seeing this, the Lord God of Heaven looks down on the man in all His mercy and says, “Forgive him! That will teach him a lesson!”
