Death

“Those who try to make their life secure will lose it, but those who lose their life will keep it” (Luke 17:33).

The poet Kahil Gibran has written a few lines that beautifully summarize what Jesus is telling us about the death/resurrection process…

When Love beckons to you, follow Him,
even though His ways are hard and steep
And when His wings enfold you, yield to Him,
even though the sword hidden among His pinions
may wound you.

And when He speaks to you, believe in Him,
even though His voice may shatter your dreams…
Is not the cup that holds your wine
the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?

Is not the lute that soothes your spirit
the very wood that was hollowed with knives?

The deeper sorrow carves into your being,
the more joy you can contain.
