Loneliness

An elderly woman who lived alone had a friend stay with her one night. The friend became curious because although there was a clock in each room of the little apartment, nevertheless the woman called on the telephone to hear the time, just before she went to bed. When her friend asked her why she did this, she answered, “Oh I do that every night. I just like to hear someone’s voice before I go to sleep.”
