“As Christ was raised from the dead by the Father’s glory, we too might live a new life” (Romans 6:4).
Once upon a time, as autumn began, a man sawed off the branch of a fig tree. Weeks later he returned to the scene and found that all the leaves had fallen off the tree. However, the leaves on the sawed-off branch were intact. In fact, he had to tug hard to remove them from the branch. The man concluded that leaves do not actually fall off fig trees. They are pushed out by the life in the tree onto the ground so that they can participate in nature’s ongoing creative process. Not by the power of us mortals but by the Power of Almighty God do such wondrous miracles of nature occur. But even more wondrous — wondrous almost beyond belief — is the miracle of New Life performed on our behalf by the Resurrection Power of God.
