“Teacher, what shall we do?” (Lk. 6:40).
A distinguished preacher tells of an experience he had while still in seminary:
I had the opportunity of speaking to a large group of inmates in a penitentiary. In trying to emphasize the importance of personal involvement, I said: “If I wanted to learn to swim, I could approach the project in several ways. I could read a good book on the subject; I could talk to an expert swimmer; I could watch good swimmers — and in the process, perhaps, I could write a best-selling book on swimming. But, if I really wanted to learn to swim, what would I have to do?” I paused for just a few moments before I delivered the punch line. But I didn’t have to. One of the listeners, a big fellow with an even bigger smile, shouted it for me: “Hit the water, brother, and start swimming.”
