A Father ’s Day reflection from a father:
Normally, if I’m heading off to pick up a few groceries, my four-year-old will say something like, “Daddy, when you go to the store will you bring me a surprise?” However, she stunned me earlier this year by saying, “Daddy, bring me something that will last forever.” Imagine that! She was only four yet she already had a sense of brokenness and was longing for something better. Well, I went to the store to find the “forever shelf” and, as you might expect, it was empty. Fresh out. I have thought a lot about my daughter ’s request. It’s depressing. Fruit spoils in a matter of days, canned goods in a matter of years. A million other things go the way of fruit or canned goods.
