Love | Achievement | Fulfillment

“If I have all the eloquence of men or of angels, but speak without love, I am simply a gong booming or a cymbal clanging” (I Corinthians 13:1).

A veteran of forty years as a Christian Medical Missionary died. In his billfold was a well-worn carbon copy of the following little essay on love:

If I have mastered the language ever so perfectly and speak like a pundit, but have not the love that grips the heart, I am nothing.

If I have decorations and diplomas and academic honors, but have not the touch of understanding love, I am nothing.

If I have great ideals and magnificent plans and wonderful visions, but have not the

love that sweats and bleeds and weeps and prays and pleads, I am nothing.

If I leave home and friends and comfort and surrender my body to be consumed in the heat and sweat and mildew of India, but have not the love that knows only of empathy and mercy…
