In a rural Church, the local grain-elevator manager was asked to become the parish treasurer, and he agreed on condition that no questions would be asked about finances for one full year. The people agreed, since most of them did business with him and he was a trusted man in the community. At the end of the year, the treasurer gave his report:
•The Church indebtedness of $300,000 had been paid.
•The staff salaries had been increased by 10%.
•The mission payments had increased 200%.
•All major repairs to the Church plant had been made.
•There were no outstanding bills.
•There was a cash balance of $30,000.
