RATTLESNAKE STRIKES
Author Michael Crichton was making a movie that required the use of rattlesnakes. The movie needed shots of a snake crawling in the desert, striking, and sinking its fangs into the leg of an actor. To get these shots, the film crew had four snakes for the crawling scenes and six snakes for the striking scenes. When the caged rattlers were first introduced to the filming location, everyone was petrified. They were all constantly concerned that the snakes were not loose, that they would not be bitten. But the greatest problem of the entire filming process is that the snakes were not that fearsome. The frightened snakes would crawl away from the cameras and the crew, they would easily get hot and tired, and they would only reluctantly strike.
