THE UPWARD CALL
The newsletter editor’s note that precedes the following poem: The following poem was written by a precious brother and member of a community of believers in Chicago, Illinois. He read it during a communion service that I attended there. After hearing the poem, I made a special effort to locate the brother and get a copy of the poem, and also permission to use it in the newsletter. He gave me his original (and only) copy. Now at the time of typing it, I find that he had neither titled it nor signed it. I therefore cannot give credit where credit is due. In time and space we run this race, To each, God measures every pace. The goal, the prize, before our eyes, The upward call in Christ it lies. To plunge, to lunge, to press ahead, the land before us he has spread. Heaven’s colony on earth’s terrain, we are His city, His Garden, His domain. Sealed and sheltered…
