EMPTY CAGES
The most popular episode ever of The Andy Griffith Show was about a time when Opie shot and killed a mother bird. The cheeping of the baby birds, along with the counsel of his dad, reminded Opie that now he would have to care for those little birds until they were able to care for themselves. As Opie cared for these baby birds, he became attached to them. In the final scene, it was time for Opie to release the birds back into the wild. The episode ended like this: Opie: “The cage sure seems empty, Pa.” Andy: “Yes, it does. But don’t the trees seem nice and full!”
