MISSING MONA LISA
Rabbi Dr. Mordecai E. Zeitz tells about a sample of the Mona Lisa that was stolen from the Louvere (LOOVE) in Paris in 1911. The painting was missing for two years. What was so incredible about this disappearance is that more people came to see the empty spot where the painting had hung than had ever come to see it in the previous twelve years. The rabbi comments: “I find this intriguing bit of information an important commentary about life. It points to our all too human tendency to fail to take adequate note of precious things while we still have them. . . . The fact is, we fail to appreciate what we have until it is taken from us.
