COACH BROWN IN TOWN
When Larry Brown was the coach of the San Antonio Spurs basketball team, he spent an afternoon at a local men’s store signing autographs. He spent more than the allotted two hours. Kids besieged him. Everybody had a question and everybody wanted to shake Coach Brown’s hand. Finally, he slipped out of the store and got into his car only to notice a late arriving youngster madly peddling his bike to the store. The boy jumped off his bike and ran to the window to see if the coach was still in the store. When he saw that he wasn’t, he turned sadly and walked to his bike, got on and began to ride away. Coach Brown got out of his car and called to the boy. They chatted a few minutes and then went next door to get a Coke. There were no reporters to see this. The TV cameras were long gone.
