BRUISES NEEDED
My son constantly ventures out past his known boundaries, continually expanding the envelope. You can tell by the number of bruises on his legs how far he has ventured that day. But he also has almost no fear, he has this unusual confidence that there is nothing he cannot do. The only way he can expand his environment is through experiencing the pain of shin bruises: his bruises are the measure of his victories. A child without any bruises on their legs will be sitting on their parents laps all of their lives, never venturing beyond their safety zone, never maturing.
