PERSONAL THANKSGIVING
In his book Who Needs God? Harold Kushner tells of a man who always wrote “thank you” in the lower left-hand corner of the checks he wrote to the grocer, the phone company, the gas company, even on his checks to the I.R.S. He did it not because these companies would be impressed; he knew better than that. He did it simply as his personal way of reminding himself to be grateful for living in a free country and for all the services this freedom brought. Summarized by Mark Link, S. J.
