ULTIMATE TIGHTWAD
My great-grandfather Laramer had seen hard times, and he did not like to waste anything. In the mornings he would chew a wad of tobacco, and when he was done chewing it, he would set the wad out in the sun to dry. Later in the day, he would stuff the wad into his pipe and smoke it. His grandchildren teased him about being such a tightwad. He responded by saying, “Well that’s not all. After I’m done with the pipe, I wet the ashes (or blow my nose) and use that to blacken my boots.”
