If we were to ask each other to name the one ingredient necessary to establish peace in our human relationships, undoubtedly the Golden Rule would be the majority response. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” We like to cite the Golden Rule as the main guidepost of our lives. It is the motto of many civic clubs and service organizations. Somewhere on the East Coast there is a “Golden Rule Funeral Home”-the implications of which I haven’t quite figured out yet. In any case, the Golden Rule rates very high on the list of popular Biblical sayings. It is important for us as a worshipping people in the Community of Christ to try to set the record straight on the Golden Rule because, unfortunately, some wildly exaggerated things have been said about it.
