We Christians don’t like to hear much talk about money in Church. Somehow we fail to see how our attitude and approach to money ties in with our religion, our spirituality, our relationship with Christ. In the “Sermon on the Mount,” when Jesus says “No man can serve two masters…you cannot give yourself to God and money,” He is talking directly to us, because the temptation to serve the almighty dollar instead of Almighty God is with us constantly. Living as we do in a highly materialistic society, this is one of the big combat zones in our life.
Jesus identified a certain attitude toward money with eternal life! He told people to give up the idea that money could make them happy. He told them if they wanted to become the kind of persons God wanted them to be, they would first have to give away their money.
