“Honor your father ... ” (Deuteronomy 5:16).
A Sunday school class of first-graders was asked to draw a picture of God. When the pastor stopped by to inspect their work, they were happy to show him. One child had depicted God in the form of a brightly-colored rainbow. Another had drawn the face of an old man coming out of some billowing clouds. And there was one rendition that looked a lot like Superman. But, best of all, there was the one proudly displayed by a little girl who said, “I didn’t know what God looked like, so I drew a picture of my daddy.”
We come together today as a Community of Faith to show our final act of caring toward [First Name]. And, of all the roles he assumed in life, none was more important to him than that of husband and father. These roles he played out with utmost seriousness and commitment.
