ASSISI & HUMILITY
Dom Helder Camara tells an apocryphal tale about a conversation between St. Francis of Assisi and another monk: St. Francis and Brother Leo were walking together. Brother Leo cried out, “Brother Francis!” “Yes, I am Brother Francis,” was the reply. “Be careful, Brother Francis! People say remarkable things about you! Be careful!” St. Francis of Assisi answered his friend, “Pray… that I may succeed in becoming what people think I am.” Adapted from The Conversion of a Bishop, by Dom Helder Camara, published by Collins Press, London, 1977, pg. 126
