ANGELS COVERED THE CROSSES
Harold tried out for the Christmas pageant. He wanted to play the role of Joseph, but was selected to be “just a shepherd.” Further evidence of miscasting came when his sister was chosen to play an angel. During the rehearsal, the teacher directing the pageant marked a x on the stage floor to show each person just where to stand. Harold knew his spot very well. On the afternoon of the show, Harold was dressed in his robe and slippers in just under ten minutes. His sister took all day to get on her big white dress with hoops, wire up her halo, and adjust her wings. By curtain time, Harold was thoroughly disgusted. In great splendor, the angels took their places. The director’s only oversight was a failure to realize just how wide the angels’ dresses spread out, covering some of the x’s.
