PARENTING WITH TOUGH LOVE
Harold Wilek, who born with no arms tells the story of when he was two or three years old and was struggling to get a shirt over his head and around his shoulders. “I was grunting and sweating and my mother just stood there and watched.” Finally a friend turned to his mother and said in exasperation, “Ida, why don’t you help that child?” My mother responded through gritted teeth, “I am helping him.”
