GOD IS A TOWER
The storms that hit the Texas coast sometimes would seem to blow down any tower, but the Bolivar Lighthouse has withstood the worst. A hurricane on September 7, 1900 hit with 120 mph winds, and the accompanying surges threatened to drown Galveston. You would think that a tower 117 feet tall would fold under such punishment, but it proved to be one of the most stable structures in the area. Not only did it stand through the storm, but 124 people gathered on its steps, two to a step as water chest-deep seeped in the base. Even the keeper, watching from the lantern had to hold on the handholds in order to keep from falling because of the swaying of the tower . . . but it held firm. We are to run to God in times of personal “storm” because He is a “strong tower” (Proverbs 18:10), and He is ” Refuge from the storm” (Isaiah 25:4).
