BROKEN GLASS BEAUTY
The royal palace in Tehran, Iran is breathtakingly beautiful! When one steps into the palace, he is surrounded with millions of pieces of glittering sparkling glass. It appears as if the domed ceilings, the side walls and columns are diamond covered and not cut glass; however, they are all small pieces of mirrors. The edges of the myriad of little mirrors reflect prism light, throwing out the colors of the rainbow. Spectacular! Here’s how it happened: when the royal palace was planned, the architects ordered mirrors to cover the entrance walls. When the mirrors arrived, it was found that they had all been broken in transit. There were thousands of pieces of smashed mirrors. They were going to dispose of them all when one creative man said, “No, maybe it will be more beautiful because they are broken.” He took some of the larger pieces and smashed them also and fitted them together like an abstract mosaic.
