Pangs of jealousy were in Miss Iceberg’s heart when she heard that her former admirer had proposed to Miss Lovewell. She happened to run across her in a bargain basement rush. She could not resist giving a dig. “She gushed, I hear that you’ve accepted Jack’s proposal. I suppose he never told you he once proposed to me.” The fiancee responded, “No. But he did once tell me there were a lot of things in his life of which he was ashamed, but I didn’t ask him what they were.”
