PRAYER TO SNEEZE AT
The State Supreme Court decided in May, 1991 that the U.S. Constitution prohibited invocations at commencement exercises. Keeping within the controversial ruling, students at a Riverside County high school in Yuca Valley found a unique way to invoke God’s blessing upon their graduation ceremony. The ceremony proceeded with the typical addresses to the graduating class. Each one was challenging and inspiration but only the one delivered at the end received a standing ovation. The graduating student walked proudly to the microphone to deliver his address — a sneeze. The entire student body rose to their feet and in unison said, “God bless you.” The audience erupted in applause for the blessing that was bestowed upon the 1992 graduating class.
