W. Va. — Jim Keller considers himself a guardian angel of the disabled. Keller, a former construction worker, is a victim of multiple sclerosis. “Three years ago, I was climbing high steel — microwave towers thousands of feet in the air. Now, it takes me 20 minutes to get into this chair from the seat of a car. That’s kind of frustrating,” he said. “But I don’t want anyone’s pity, and I don’t want to ask anyone for help. All I want is for people to accept me for what I am.” Keller has been known to block cars parked illegally in spaces reserved for the disabled, call police, and wait up to an hour to make sure the car isn’t moved before an officer can arrive and ticket the offending car.
