PRAYER CHANGES PERSPECTIVE
Once upon a time – that’s the way all good stories used to begin for children – a monk was walking down a country road. It was early in the morning, and he was going to meet some good friends who lived a great distance away. (This was hundreds of years ago, of course.) He had on his brown robe, his head was tonsured, and his sandals were slapping against the road raising little clouds of dust in the sun. Around noontime he began to tire. He was also hungry. It was time to eat; only he had forgotten to bring a lunch, so he began to get edgy, even a bit paranoid about the length of the road, the heat of the sun, and the “why” of the journey.
