LOSING MOMENTUM
Jack Hayford tells about an incident in High School. He and his basketball team were playing an “away” game. There were few of their home crowd in attendance. The team was on its own, but was the superior team. They had a comfortable lead. Every time they would do something else right, however, there were neither cheers nor encouragement. Their lead was declining and it looked like they were in trouble. The coach called a time out and called the team to the bench. He explained to Jack and his team- mates what was happening. They were in “enemy territory” without their usual support. They were winning the game, but did not FEEL like they were winning the game. Once they realized the source of the lag, the team knew how to fight it. They were now more emotionally prepared for the lack of encouragement. And they won the game! There are times when we are in enemy territory without any encouragement.…
