MISSISSIPPI MEMORIES
I wish more than anything that I could be in Mississippi for that is home to me to talk to old friends and strangers in the way. I wish I could take a walk through the woods and feel the crunch of the pine needles as a carpet beneath my feet. I wish I could bait a hook and cast a line into the old farm pond, and listen to the myriad songs of the Mockingbirds. I wish that I could sit in a rocker in Grandma’s house and watch her drift in and out of sleep, between conversations, or that I could taste all of the memories in just one bite of fresh pecan pie, or peanut brittle, or strawberry cobbler. I wish I could wake up to the smell of Jo-Do biscuits in the oven and bacon and sausages on the stove. I wish that I could fix something that has broken or clean the ceilings or do the dishes,…
