REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS
When Conrad Adenauer was still chancellor he was approaching the age of ninety and he succumbed to a heavy cold. His personal physician was unable to be of very much help and had to put up with Adenauer’s impatience. The harassed doctor protested, “I’m not a magician. I can’t make you young again.” The chancellor retorted, “I haven’t asked you to. All I want is to go on getting older.” Adapted from The Little, Brown Book of Anecdotes.
