AUTUMN IS IN THE AIR
One of my favorite cartoon strips is Funky Winkerbean by Tom Batiuk. One I particularly liked showed two leaves in conversation with one another at the end of a branch. The large leaf says to the small one, “Well, the first hint of fall is in the air! We were born in the gentle warmth of spring, shared in the glory of a blazing summer sun, and now quietly fall before the cold dark winter!” The smaller leaf turns, fully shook up by this, and says, “THAT’S IT?! FOUR LOUSY STINKING MONTHS?!!” Perspective, Varied Response. AUTUMN IS IN THE AIR Another one in the Funky Winkerbean autumn series shows the same two leaves in conversation. The big leaf says to the small leaf, “Well, in a few days it will happen!
