DON’T ASK THE WITNESS
A gray-haired little old lady sprightly took the witness stand. The prosecutor began his interrogation. “Do you know me?” he asked. “I sure do,” the woman answered. “I have lived in this town all my life, and I know just about everyone who has ever lived here. I’ve watched you grow up from childhood, and I think you turned out to be a crook!” The prosecuting attorney was surprised by her answer and asked, “So I suppose you know the defense attorney as well?” The woman agreed, “I most certainly do. I have known him since he was born. He turned out to be a crook as well!” At that, the judge summoned the attorneys to the bench and told them, “If either of you ask her if she knows me, I will charge you with contempt!”
