PRIMING THE GULLY
A man was driving on a dirt road and became bogged down in a gully that was filled with mud. Moments after he got stuck, a farmer rode by in his tractor. The driver offered the farmer fifty dollars to pull his car out of the mud. The farmer hooked up the car and quickly pulled it out of the mud. As the grateful driver paid the farmer the fifty dollars, he joked with the farmer and said that the farmer should just stay at this muddy gully and he would make more money than he could as a farmer. The driver said, “You could make more money by doing this all the time.” The farmer disagreed. “I couldn’t do this all the time. The gully will eventually dry out; to keep it muddy I have to haul in more water.”
