THE ‘ONE HOLY NATION’ PRINCIPLE
In Charles Colson’s book, Loving God, he has a chapter on the topic “One Holy Nation,” in which he speaks of the awareness of the church as one inter-related, organic unit, emphasizing its unity, each part of the body seeing itself as joined together as a part of one larger unit — the body of Christ — “One Holy Nation.” He shares what this has meant for one church: Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Wichita, Kansas, has experienced this. Though pastored by a gifted minister, Frank Kik, responsibility for the church is shared by strong laypeople and the saints are being well-equipped. Christian scholars from around the country frequently lecture there; laypeople are involved in serious theological study; many in the church are involved in prayer groups; and the congregation actively supports overseas missions and mercy ministries around the country. All this is, I believe, the direct result of the conscious decision at Eastminster to break from its natural provincialism…
